Northeastern Wyoming Resource, Conservation & Development Area

BIOFUELS

Goal: Enhance Biofuels Production and Consumer Availability
Wyoming is home to one of the leading cellulosic ethanol projects in the nation at Upton. Biodiesel production using Wyoming grown crops is proposed in Gillette. Currently the RC&D is leading an effort to increase the consumer availability of ethanol blended fuels. Given Wyoming’s distance from national markets, additional work is needed to facilitate the production and delivery of biofuels in Wyoming and to increase consumer education and technical assistance to businesses.

Objectives

A)     Assist private sector construction of production facilities for ethanol and/or biodiesel from local feed stocks – Northeastern biofuels plant operating by 2009.

B)     Make e-85 ethanol available to consumers in all Counties of the RC&D area by 2009.

Strategies

i)           Educate citizens and businesses about biofuels uses and availability.

ii)         Conduct outreach seminars to inform farmers and foresters of feedstock supply opportunities.

iii)        Coordinate feedstock availability, grant funding and/or economic analysis as needed for Western Biomass Energy in Upton, Wyoming.

iv)       Establish a dedicated assistance program to build biofuels infrastructure in Northeastern Wyoming.
